Cooler temperatures ‘until mid-February’

The US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), together with Chulalongkorn University’s environmental expert Mr. Jessada Denduangboripant, has confirmed the La Nina season in Thailand has caused the colder weather temperatures that may last until mid-February 2025.

Bangkok has been experiencing 17 degrees celsius, or even lower in some areas, in the past few weeks. Experts have also mentioned that this coming summer will not be as hot as the previous. In a recent Bangkok Post report, the La Nina affecting the country will continue until March and April, bringing a cooler summer experience brought by high humidity and rain.

China, which affects Thailand’s weather, has experienced its coldest temperatures in 30 years since January, with temperatures in Daxing-anling prefecture reaching -53 degrees celsius.

According to Mr Sonthi Kotchawat, a Thai environmental scholars club health and environment expert, the current drop in temperatures in Thailand is caused by the polar vortex phenomenon in China.
