A temporary 90-day order has been enforced to ban motorcyclists from using underpasses and flyovers throughout Bangkok, effective on Thursday, April 7, 2016.
Metropolitan Police Bureau deputy chief Pol Maj Gen Adul Narongsak, who manages traffic affairs, declared that a new crackdown has been implemented under the Land Traffic Act in order to complete a total of 6 tunnels and 36 junction flyovers across the capital off-limits to bike riders.
This 90-day temporary ban covers other low-speed means of transportation like the saleng (tricycles), tuktuks, as well as push carts and vending carts.
Pol Maj Gen Adul added that this new order will enable traffic enforcers to “take decisive action against unruly motorcyclists”. Violators will be fined between THB 500 and THB 1000.
The 6 underpasses prohibited are located at Boromratchonnanee, Bang Khen, Udomsri, Tha Phra, Phatthanakan-Ramkhamhaeng Soi 24 and Bang Phlat.
The flyovers are located at the intersections of Asok-Phetchaburi, Din Daeng Triangle, Yommarat, Thai-Belgium, Wong Sawang, Ratchathewi, Bang Phlat and Pratunam.
