Triple Fret, an all-Filipina guitar trio, brought home numerous top awards at the 27th Japan Guitar Ensemble Festival held on June 28 at the Kyurian Hall in
Shinagawa, Tokyo, Japan.
Triple Fret won the first prize and other major awards such as the Japan Guitar Association Award, the Kohno Guitar Award, and the Harumi Award for Best Performance of an Original Contemporary Composition for Guitar Ensemble.
The Philippine Embassy in Japan extended its warm wishes and commendation to the three ladies for giving honor and pride once again to the country.
Triple Fret was formed in 2011 with Jenny de Vera, Marga Abejo and Iqui Vinculado as its members, alumnae of the University of Santo Tomas Conservatory of Music and the University of the Philippines College of Music.
The trio are grateful to their supporters for coming and giving them inspiration during their performance in the competition.
“Thank you so much to all our friends who supported us and prayed for us. We were very touched when you all came to watch us perform,” the trio said on their Facebook page after their victory.
They also thanked the people who organized their concerts in Manila and Japan prior to and as a preparation for the competition. They are also thankful to their guitar maestros Lester Demetillo, Carsten Linck, Alexis Vallejos and Tomonori Arai.
The trio is known for its huge repertoire of Spanish guitar pieces, jazz, tango, Filipino traditional music, classical and also contemporary pieces. Below is Triple Fret’s version of the famous “Bohemian Rhapsody”.
