Filipino students win top awards at International Creativity Innovation Awards in Bangkok

A delegation from the Vinzons Pilot High School (VPHS) and Basud National High School (BNHS), Camarines Norte, paid a courtesy visit on Ambassador Millicent Cruz Paredes on 30 April 2024, following their successful participation in the recently concluded International Creativity Innovation Awards (ICIA) 2024 in Bangkok, Thailand.

Students from VPHS secured the Silver, Titanium and Grand Awards in the ICIA Innovation Award Category for their projects and presentation entitled Swiper: Absorption of Phosphate from Swine Wastewater Using Magnetic Pili (Canarium Ovatum) Shell Biochar and Its Potential as Phosphorous-based Soil Conditioner, and Siglatra: Raspberry PI Based Translator Device That Translates Static Sign Language to Text and Speech and Performs Speech to Text Translation.

Meanwhile, students from BNHS took home the Gold Award for their Prototype YOLOv5 Convolutional Neural Network Algorithm-Based Forest Aerial Surveillance, Land Area Calculation, and Smoke Detection Robot, showcasing technology aimed at preventing forest fire and environmental disaster. 

Ambassador Paredes extended her heartfelt congratulations to the students, coaches, teachers and the heads of the Department of Education Division Office in Camarines Norte. She commended their collective effort, hard work and dedication in nurturing an environment that is conducive to innovation and excellence. 

In closing, Ambassador Paredes encouraged the students to continue pursuing excellence and to aspire to make significant contributions for the development and progress of the Philippines and the Filipino people.
