Filipinos in Thailand Celebrate Philippine Independence Day at Embassy Grounds

The 117th Philippine Independence Day Celebration sparks patriotism among OFWs in Thailand. Together with a number of sponsors, the Filipino community in Bangkok and surrounding provinces have come to commemorate the event at the Philippine Embassy grounds in Bangkok today June 7.

It’s such a heart-warming moment to see the Filipino community come together for this special occasion. One could observe the sense of brotherhood among Filipinos on event like this. And believe it or not many are teary-eyed including me as the Philippine flag is raised. Truly, you won’t feel the peak of patriotism until you leave the solid ground of your motherland.

A mass is also celebrated with Reverend Father Gerry de los Reyes, along with Fr. Monching and Fr. Vic concelebrating.

Our very own Consul General Edgar Badajos gives a very inspiring message. He relays President Aquino’s message which emphasizes on the significant role of OFWs in fighting the war against poverty. He says that the yearly dollar remittance to the Philippines coming from OFWs has reached 25 billion

To top it all, the celebration is a tremendous success. As of this writing, more exciting events are unfolding but one thing I sincerely witness is the effect of Filipinos coming together to realize a significant occasion in order to have a real sense of national independence and pride anywhere in the world. Congratulations Philippines! Let us be proud of our freedom.
