No Songkran Festivities on Khao San Road this year

In a report by Thailand News Agency, Piyabut Jiwaramonaikul, President of the Khao San Road Business Association, said that business operators in Khao San Road agreed to the suspension of Songkran revelry in the area to pave way for the preparation of the coronation of His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn.

According to Piyabut, ” 2019 is the auspicious year of all Thai citizens. His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn. The Thai government has planned the ceremonies and their routes grandly.”

Meanwhile, Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) Permanent Secretary Silpsuay Raweesangsoon confirmed today that water splashing is allowed along Khao San Road. However, Songkran activities will be held in Lumpini Park from April 11 to 14.

The famous Phra Buddha Sihing image will be moved from the National Museum to a temporary shrine in Lumpini Park for people to pay their respect and pour in water as they celebrate the coming of the Thai New Year.
