Over 400 aftershocks recorded after Luzon quake

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology has recorded at least 406 aftershocks as of 7 a.m. Tuesday after a magnitude-6.1 earthquake hit parts of Luzon on Monday.

Out of the total, 8 were felt and 62 were “plotted”, which means that their epicenters were identified, said Phivolcs. The rest of the aftershocks were too weak to be located, it said.

The magnitudes of the aftershocks ranged from 1.4 to 3.4. At least 11 people were killed in the earthquake, the strongest to strike close to the densely populated Philippine capital in years.

The tremor was centered on the town of Castillejos, Zambales, about 100 kilometers northwest of Manila, local geologists said.
