At least 60 Filipino poll watchers and observers stayed up until midnight of May 9 to guard the results of 2016 Overseas Absentee Voting at the Philippine Embassy in Bangkok, Thailand.
Some even stayed at the Embassy the following day in what they described as smooth, peaceful and well-organized counting of votes and canvassing.
Some foreign observers were also present during the counting of votes. They also shared the same thoughts on the overseas election. Various media personnel from Philippine-based UNTV which reported directly to the Philippines, Thai media outlet Nation TV, Asian Network for Free Election or ANFREL and PinoyThaiyo all patiently waited for the result for their press releases .
The voting period for registered Filipino voters based overseas is from April 9 – May 9, 2016. There were a total of 6,121 registered Filipinos voters based on COMELEC’s Certified List of Overseas Voters.
A total of 3,554 voted in Thailand by either sending their ballot receipts or personally went to the Embassy to cast their vote. This means 58% of voters exercised their right to suffrage in the recently concluded national election.
Total number of voters – 6,121
