Pinoy dance groups notch 1st, 2nd spots at international competition in Thailand

Filipino dance groups emerged victorious at the Seacon Street Int’l Dance Challenge in Seacon Square Srinakarin, Bangkok on Sunday, August 27.

Power Impact Dancers Sirens or PID Sirens was named champion of the open division of the said international dance competition. Another Filipino group MAD RUSH bagged the 1st runner-up award followed by Thai group Warning Z who landed on the 2nd runner-up spot.

The champion received 100,000 baht while 70,000 baht for the 1st runner-up.

Five pinoy groups flew from the Philippines to Bangkok to compete. There were 16 teams from five different countries such as Thailand, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia and the Philippines. Aside from PID Sirens and MAD RUSH, another pinoy group J Crisis ranked 4th in the competition. However, only top three groups were given awards. Rounding up the Philippine team were Dauntless Republic and Monism.

A number of Filipinos in Thailand watched the competition on Sunday. Many of them posted live videos and cheered for the five groups. Filipino group KKT (Kababayan at Kapamilya sa Thailand) led by Jane Cabaya also launched a fundraising campaign to help for the food and accommodation of MAD RUSH, Monism and Dauntless during their stay in Thailand.

Businessman Rainier Roxas of Mascot Hostel Pratunam, Grace Galindez of St. Robert’s Group of Companies, Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) Filipino Community, Bahay Kubo of Katherine Gonzales, Time-out Cafe and Restaurant, Meeting Point Cafe and Restaurant, Del Castillo Ailyn, Jek Diaz, Marijo Johnson, Izel Mojado-Dante, Marisol Compendio-Anceño and Jhoi Lizada were among the many Filipinos who also extended financial help to the young and talented dancers.

The three groups are set to fly back to the Philippines on Wednesday evening.
