Pulitzer Prize winning and Off-Broadway hit play “How I Learned to Drive” will be shown at the Spark Drama Studio in Bangkok from March 3 -13, 2016.
The story follows the strained, sexual relationship between Li’l Bit and her aunt’s husband, Uncle Peck, from her adolescence through her teenage years into college and beyond. Using the metaphor of driving and the issues of pedophilia, incest, and misogyny, the play explores the ideas of control and manipulation.
It was written by Paula Vogel, an American playwright and former chair of playwriting at Yale School of Drama. The play had its Off-Broadway premiere at the Vineyard Theatre in 1997 and was revived at the Second Stage Theatre in 2012.
Aside from winning the Pulitzer Prize for Drama award and Off-Broadway Lucille Lortel Awards, the play also won Drama Desk Awards, Obie Award, Outer Critics Circle Award, and New York Drama Critics Award.
The play will be performed in English with Thai subtitles. Tickets are available at peelthelimelight.com. Discounts for early bookings and students are available as well as special packages for schools interested in bringing groups of students.
It is directed by Peter O’Neill and produced by Jaime Zúñiga. They co-founded Peel the Limelight, a professional English language theater in Bangkok.
Peel the Limelight produces professional English language theater in Thailand with local and foreign artists for the local and foreign audience. All productions are performed in English with Thai subtitles.
