The owner and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Smith English School of Languages died in an apparent suicide early this week. Mr Rajesh Singh, 37, was found hanged by a scarf from the staircase inside his English language school in Pathum Thani, Thanyaburi District on Tuesday morning.
Popularly known as “Smith Language School”, the school is popular among Filipinos and other foreign expats. Aside from hiring teachers, it also offers Thai Language and Culture Course which can be used to obtain an education visa for a longer stay in the kingdom.
According to a report from Bangkok Post, “The man was discovered dead inside the Smith English School of Languages at Passorn housing estate 4 on Rangsit-Nakhon Nayok Road in tambon Prachathipat. His death was reported to police around 9am on Tuesday” quoting Pol Lt Supachai Srisura, a duty officer at Pratunam Chulalongkorn police station.
“Mr Singh was found hanged by a scarf from the staircase inside his English language school in Pathum Thani’s Thanyaburi district. He was wearing a white T-shirt and white trousers, was hanging by a scarf around his neck from the handrail of a staircase leading to the second floor of the house.”
The report also added that “police found a two-page handwritten farewell letter in his bedroom, written in English. He complained about money problems driving him to take his own life.”
A statement from the housekeeper who discovered his body also revealed that he was complaining lately about financial problems. The victim ran the language school jointly with his friends, but stayed in the house alone.
According to the school’s website, Mr Singh taught “for more than 15 years in Thailand and overseas, armed with broad experience in administrative positions in different international schools in the country”.
