Thailand plans to resume international flights by November, Transport Minister Saksayam Chidchob said on May 14.
Mr Saksayam said he asked the Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT) to coordinate with all relevant agencies, including the Airports of Thailand Plc, U-Tapao Airport Administration and Bangkok Airways to prepare for the resumption of international flights later this year, Siam Rath reported.
The resumption of international flights will coincide with Thailand’s plan to waive its mandatory quarantine requirement for vaccinated tourists visiting its most popular destinations from October.
Earlier this week, the government said it expects 3.5 million foreign tourists to visit Thailand by the end of year.
The plan to reopen the country to foreign tourists is dependent on the government being able to inoculate 70 percent of the population in each of the provinces included in the reopening plans.
Phuket will be the first province to open in July and will act as a pilot for the project before it is rolled out to other destinations in Thailand, such as Pattaya, Koh Samui, Chiang Mai, Hua Hin and Bangkok.
