180 adults, 2 children included in second repatriation from Thailand

The second batch of repatriation for Filipinos affected by coronavirus (COVID-19) in Thailand has flown back to the Philippines via AirAsia on Thursday, May 14, around 11:50 AM.

180 adults and two children were repatriated according to a Philippine Embassy official. 185 OFW repatriates were included in the first batch on April 24.

A total of 367 Filipinos have already been repatriated.

Among Filipino repatriates are OFWs who have lost their jobs and just opted to go home, stranded tourists and around 30 student interns (OJT) from southern Thailand. The OJTs, aged 18 to 35, were assigned to work in hotels while waiting for the promised cruise ship interview. None of them was able to work in a cruise ship though. While stranded, a number of Filipino organizations came in to help with their food.

Chargé d’Affaires Mary Ann Padua and Consul General Val Roque led the Philippine Embassy officials in Bangkok in repatriating Filipinos affected by COVID-19.

Upon arrival at the airport in Manila, the repatriates will be tested for COVID-19 and will be required to undergo a 14-day quarantine in Manila and nearby provinces.
