Filipina among 11 killed in road accident on Chonburi-Bangkok motorway

A Filipina teacher is among the 11 teachers and staff who were killed on Friday evening when their van crashed into a concrete barrier and burst into flames on the Chonburi-Bangkok motorway in Chonburi province.

Miss Babylyn Perea who worked as an English teacher at Koom Klao Scholar School in Minburi died along with other Thai teachers. They were returning to Bangkok from a seminar in Rayong when the accident took place around 9pm Friday in Muang district of Chon Buri.

“The van’s tire burst and it turned over before catching on fire,” an official from Thailand’s Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department told AFP.

Four people survived the accident with injuries, the disaster official said.The school director was driving the vehicle and was among the injured, a school employee told AFP

The school has also coordinated with the Philippine Embassy in Thailand as well as with the victim’s family in the Philippines.

Meanwhile, a Facebook post from a certain Saowalek Saowalove addressed to the Perea’s family expressed her  condolences to the bereaved family. She also asked them to contact Mr Charoen either by telephone number +66811011777 or through email at teedin1009@gmail.com.

Fondly called as Teacher Lyn by her colleagues and students, the victim was one of the volunteers and donors who supported the Yolanda Fund Raising organized by Omnoi Seventh-day Adventist Church in 2014.
