A newly launched flight management system has caused delays in Don Mueang and Suvarnabhumi flights on Thursday morning March 31, 2016.
Thai media reported that 85 flight delays first happened around 5 to 7 a.m on Thursday. The new system was introduced on both airports by the state-owned Aerothai (Aeronautical Radio of Thailand).
Aerothai Vice-President Thinnakorn Chuwong stated that the adjusted air traffic management system being introduced the first time, combined with unpleasant weather conditions, caused the flight delays.
Eighty-five flights were affected: 34 at Don Mueang airport and 51 at Suvarnabhumi aiport. Thai PBS reported that the longest delay was at Suvarnabhumi airport which was 1 hour and 45 minutes.
Thinnakorn said that all passenger backlog had been cleared and the situation had returned to normal by noon.
