Be cautious of Love Scam, dating apps this Valentine’s, PNP warns public

Na-scam ka na ba ng pag-ibig?

The Philippine National Police Anti Cybercrime Group (PNP-ACG) is warning the public to be cautious of the new version of the “love scam” this Valentine’s month.

According to ACG Cyber Response Unit Chief Police Colonel Jay Guillermo, similar to the traditional love scam, scammers are seeking victims through dating apps and social media sites. Guillermo advises the public to exercise caution and vigilance when interacting with strangers online, especially those expressing romantic interest.

He emphasizes the importance of verifying the identity of individuals before sharing personal information or engaging in any financial transactions.

The ACG is intensifying its efforts to raise awareness about the evolving tactics of scammers and encourages the public to report any suspicious activities promptly.

With the prevalence of online platforms for socializing, it becomes crucial for individuals to stay informed and adopt safe online practices to protect themselves from falling victim to cybercrimes, particularly during this season associated with romantic connections.
