JAKARTA, Indonesia — Despite of mounting international criticism and appeals for clemency, Mary Jane Veloso was transferred to Nusa Kambangan prison island in Cilacap, Central Java, the place where Indonesia holds its executions, April 24, 2015.
At around 1:00 a.m., an armored personnel carrier and a car were seen arriving at a port Friday for the short trip to Nusa Kambangan island, and prison officials said Veloso was inside the car. No date has been set for the executions though. Convicts are given 72 hours notice before being put to death.
Veloso, a mother of two, is a Filipino maid facing the death penalty after being convicted of drug trafficking in October 2010. She is among 10 drug smugglers whose planned executions last month were postponed due to last-minute appeals.
Her children and mother arrived in Jakarta around midnight with plans to visit her in Yogyakarta on Friday. Her two sons on Thursday made an emotional appeal to Kaesang Pangarep, Indonesian President Joko Widodo’s son, to help save their mother.
The Veloso family, friends and the Filipino people are remained hopeful until that 72-hour notice is given.
