Government urges Songkran-related parties to end by midnight

Tourists, most specially from nearby Asian countries, might be skipping this year’s Songkran celebration, as the interim government calls for provincial government units to control its celebrations and limit merry-making until midnight only.

According to a report by the Bangkok Post, the call to cut parties shorter compared to past years, is in observance to the ongoing mourning period of the late king’s passing, King Bhumibol Adulyadej. While this rule is strictly mandated over official government-approved parties, private celebrations are also discouraged and should be toned down according to Deputy Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwon.

PinoyThaiyo earlier reported that Khao San road has opted out for a more traditional ceremony for this year’s Songkran celebration citing its close proximity to the Grand Palace, where the body of the late king is laid.
