With joy and fulfillment reflected on their faces, 276 graduates marched to receive their new diploma and hard-earned degree during the Ifugao State University Summer Commencement Exercises at Indra Regent Hotel in Bangkok on Sunday, May 15, 2016.
The ceremony was made possible through the transnational partnership in education of IFSU with St. Robert’s Global Education and Management, a popular and fast-growing learning institution based in Thailand.
Of the 276 graduates from Thailand, 253 received Diploma in Teacher Education, 19 earned Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT), and four obtained Doctor of Philosophy. The result of Sunday’s graduation echoes this year’s commencement theme, “IFSU:Making a difference in transforming lives”.
NEDA Regional Director Dr. Milagros Rimando graced the occasion as the keynote speaker. Dr. Rimando serves Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) where IFSU is also located. NEDA stands for National Economic Development Authority in the Philippines.
In her speech, Dr. Rimando congratulated the graduates and challenged them to make good use of their hard-earned education. She also expressed her admiration to all the graduates for managing to work abroad and study simultaneously. Majority of the grads work as English as Foreign Language (EFL) teachers in the Kingdom.
There were over 500 families and friends in a jampacked hall who witnessed the graduation rites. Many of them were from Bangkok and neighboring provinces. A significant number of attendees was also from Laos and Cambodia and other far-flung provinces.
Graduates arrived early for the final rehearsal and photo shoot. The program lasted for five hours which started with the parade of colors and guests and ended with a sumptuous dinner at the hotel.
St. Robert’s Global Education and Management is a subsidiary of St. Robert’s Group of Companies led by Dr Robert Galindez, owner and CEO. IFSU and other university partners including Eulogio “Amang” Rodriguez Institute of Science and Technology (EARIST) and Philippine Christian University (PCU) provide quality education for Filipinos and other nationalities in Thailand.
