President Rody Duterte was all praises as he paid tribute to His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej in a short personal visit on November 9, 2016 in Bangkok.
The Philippine president arrived at a military base in Bangkok on Wednesday afternoon and went straight to Grand Palace. He was ushered to Dusit Maha Prasat Throne Hall where the body of the late King is being rested. He also signed the book of condolences.
In a news article on Bangkok Post, the Philippine leader was mentioned saying “the Philippines and Thailand have a long relationship, and he praised the King for being a role model of virtue for people in the Philippines and other countries”.
Duterte also called King Bhumibol “a true friend of the Philippines and the Filipino people” upon his arrival from the two-day state visit in Malaysia.
“His Majesty will be remembered by his dedicated efforts to foster goodwill, mutual respect, and friendship between our nations and peoples,” Duterte added in his arrival speech at the Davao City International Airport.
High ranking government officials who joined Duterte in paying respects to the King include Senator Allan Peter Cayetano, Foreign Affairs Secretary Perfecto Yasay, Head of the Presidential Management Staff Christopher Go and Ambassador Mary Jo Aragon.
Myanmar President Htin Kyaw also paid his respects and signed a message of condolences for the passing of the King.
