The Liberal Party (LP) standard-bearer namesake Manuel Antonio “Mar” Roxas is out of the presidential race after the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) included him in the list of nuisance candidates.
Declared nuisance candidates have until November 10, 2015 to appeal their removal from the official list. But Mr. Roxas agreed with the decision and withdrew his candidacy immediately.
Mr. Roxas, a policeman, admitted that he used the filing of candidacy to raise awareness on the predicament of his son who has been detained for rape charges for almost 20 years already.
“I only wanted the case of my son to be heard. He has been in jail for almost 20 years now,” said Roxas.
Accompanying him to the Comelec is his wife, Erlinda, who confirmed that the staff of the LP presidential bet urged them to withdraw his candidacy.
“I have no problem in withdrawing. I don’t have a lawyer. So I don’t want to face any charges. I don’t want any trouble,” said the former policeman.
