2019 marks the fifth anniversary of Tourism Authority of Thailand’s (TAT) Thailand Travel Shield project. Established in 2014, the project aims at
providing online travel insurance for foreign tourists.
According to TAT, “Travelers planning a trip to Thailand can continue to buy the Thailand Travel Shield’s insurance coverage online at http://thailandtravelshield.tourismthailand.org/. Available in English and Chinese, the platform allows several payment methods including credit card, debit card, Union Pay and AliPay, with the insurance policy being sent instantly to the insured via email.”
Tourists may avail of the benefits of the insurance only after passing the immigration until they leave the Kingdom. Visitors with this insurance may avail access to more than 300 hospitals across Thailand and a 24 hour emergency assistance staffed by Allianz Globa Assistance available in more than 40 languages.
Travelers may avail of the package of 1-7 days for 400 baht with a coverage value of up to 1 million baht or the 950 baht package with a coverage values of up to 2 million baht.
TAT emphasized that the insurance covers the following: loss of life, dismemberment (hand/foot), loss of sight or total permanent disability during the trip from accident; medical expenses from accident and sickness; trip cancellation; trip curtailment; hijacking; travel delay (more than six hours); loss or damage of baggage and personal effect; baggage delay; personal liability, and travel assistance service.
