7-Million Baht Worth of Marijuana Seized in Khon Kaen

Over 530 kilos of compressed marijuana was confiscated in a police chase in Nam Phong district early morning of March 11, Saturday.

Police checkpoints were set along Nam Phong district after they were tipped-off of a planned transfer of illegal drugs from Bung Kan province to Bangkok via Mittraphap Road. The police check point waived the said pick-up truck that had tarpaulin covering its backside but the driver sped fast the said check point, prompting for a cop chase. Officers tried to intercept the said chase but only to later find out that the said pick up was already abandoned 10 kilometers off the checkpoint, with the driver not in sight, says Pol Col Paichart Phochan of the Khon Kaen Highway Police.

The pick up’s back side had revealed 15 black plastic bags containing 530 bars of compressed marijuana.

Car registration records show that the vehicle belonged to a 47-year old Thavorn from Kalasin. The owner will be called for questioning.
