On May 29, 2016, the Migrant Community of Korat held the traditional Santacruzan at Sima Thani hotel in Nakhon Ratchasima. Unlike the previous years, the celebration was spearheaded by the Catholic Church under the chaplaincy of Fr. Freddie Dizon.
During his opening remarks, he mentioned the role of the Catholic Church to the migrant community which does not only include Filipino community but also other nationalities.
However, the migrant community is not only for Catholics but also for other denominations to prove that the Church supports ecumenism.
Santacruzan is usually held on the last day of Flores de Mayo or the month of May as declared by the Vatican to be devoted solely for Mama Mary. The tradition is rooted back to the 18th century and is also practiced in other Catholic countries like El Salvador, Spain and Mexico.
