Philippine Vice President Ma. Leonor “Leni” Robredo instructed her office Tuesday night to start relief operations for affected and displaced families with regards to the armed conflict in Marawi City.
In a statement released to the media, the vice president said that residents of Marawi is in need of immediate assistance from all sectors. Robredo, who is in the country monitoring the ongoing situation, asked the public not to be afraid of the situation. She said that the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) will handle the situation well, expressing her confidence.
“They have assured us that they are in control and that the conflict will be suppressed at the soonest possible time,” she said. She also asked for everyone to pray for the AFP contingent fighting in Marawi.
